Teaching Art in a Digital World: A Pandemic-Era Series

During the COVID-19 pandemic, as schools transitioned to remote learning, educators faced significant challenges in adapting in-person lesson plans to digital formats. My mother, an elementary art teacher, was among those struggling due to her limited tech experience. In response, I collaborated with her to create instructional videos aimed at engaging students and fostering creativity in both live video conferences and self-paced learning environments—formats that gained increased prominence during this period.

The series blended art history, popular culture, and critical thinking, helping students develop their artistic abilities despite the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Topics ranged from surrealism with Salvador Dalí and René Magritte to learning how to infuse their personal voice into their art.

Key Skills and Process:

Through this project, I applied my expertise in video production, content creation, and instructional design to create engaging educational videos that support learning. It demonstrates my proficiency in:

  • Planning & Collaboration: Partnered with my mother to develop video content that aligned with her curriculum and educational goals, enriching the overall learning experience.

  • Video Production: Managed all aspects of filming, including setting up a mirrorless camera overhead with a C-stand and camera arm to capture clear and stable footage for demonstrations.

  • Multimedia Integration: Enhanced lessons with relevant historical images, video clips, and animations, providing context and deepening student engagement.

  • Video Editing: Edited footage using Premiere Pro, adding text, transitions, and supplementary materials to create cohesive, polished educational content.

  • Creative Problem Solving: Adapted to the challenges posed by remote learning, ensuring that the material remained engaging, accessible, and easy to follow.

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated a strong command of video production tools and techniques, from filming to post-production, ensuring high-quality output.

  • Instructional Design & Content Creation: Developed videos that blended art history, creativity, and critical thinking, helping students engage with complex concepts in a remote learning environment.

This project showcases my ability to plan, shoot, and edit high-quality video content that enhances educational experiences. It highlights my skills in instructional design, working closely with experts, multimedia storytelling, and technical video production, making me well-suited for roles in education, media production, and content creation.
